Caring for books
Look after your books. Avoid extremes of temperature, light and humidity. Never use ordinary sticky tape, not even the low-stick or see-through types. Always use acid-free materials for repair or storage of books.
Conservation Supplies
Repair Tape: Acid-free paper tape, removable with water, for repair of torn pages and dustwrappers. Each comes in a dispenser pack, 2cm x 50m.

Filmoplast P - clear tape can be used over text or picture. $32.00

Polypropylene Film: A clear film, rated moderately archival (i.e. will do no harm for at least 100yrs), ideal for protecting dustwrappers. Simply cut to length and fold over top and bottom edges of dustwrappers, no further cutting or tape required. Comes in 50m rolls.

Leather Dressing: Our own Australian Book Collector leather dressing, specially made for the preservation of leather book bindings according to the recipe used by the Library of Congress. Will polish to a pleasing moderate gloss finish (not as shiny as newly polished boots).
Do not use shoe polish, saddler's dressing or Dubbin on book leather, as these products all contain acidic additives.
